Classic Soap Operas Now on TVS Pageant.Com

TVS Pageant.Com, the 'Chick Channel' on the TV4U.Com 48 channel IPTV network, is now featuring some classic soap operas from decades past. Once again fans of Search For Tomorrow, Edge of Night, Santa Barbara, One Life to Live, A Brighter Day, and the like can relive some of the days gone by in soap operaland.

The soap opera was actually a creation of the early days of radio, when Proctor and Gamble, then a small manufacturing company in Cincinnati, wanted to sell their soap products by producing dramatic radio shows on WLWT, the Cincinnati radio station owned by broadcasting pioneer Powell Crosley. While originating in Cincinnati, Crosley was pumping out 500,000 watts of signal (10 times today's strongest AM radio stations) so the ads were being heard almost nationwide. The result was instant establishment of the Proctor and Gamble brands and the establishment of what came to be called the 'Soap Opera'.

Beverly Garland Remembered via Police Woman -Decoy On TV4U.Com

We lost the beautiful and talented Beverly Garland this year, but her work - and her place in TV History- lives on. Beverly Garland was the first female lead in a 'serious' TV series, Police Woman-Decoy, which Official Films syndicated in 1957. She broke the mold and established the female 'serious' lead in television. It paved the way for Anne Francis in Honey West and then Angie Dickeson in Police Woman and then Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly in Cagney and Lacey..

The long forgotten Mothers In Law sitcom, the only show that Desi Arnez produced after the break up with his wife Lucille Ball, can be seen on TV4U.Com, the 48 channel IPTV network that is free TV shows on demand.

Desi Arnez went back to his I Love Lucy writers Bob Carroll, Jr and Madelyn Davis (I'll bet Lucy LOVED that!) to helm the show and brought back favorite Desilu star Eve Arden to basically play Lucy's role. Add in the wonderfully zany Kay Ballard and the show was a delight.
It lasted two years and lost its sponsor. With that Desi Arnez bowed from the network TV scene.

Private Secretary Staring Ann Sothern is Surprise Hit on TV4U.Com

It was never a big hit on TV when it aired on CBS from 1953-57, but Private Secretary has become a hit more than 50 years later on TV4U.Com. Who knows why? Ann Sothern was one of the many movie stars of the 1940's who continued their career thans to the advent of TV. The show was well done and certainly reflected the times of the early 1950's in American Life. Why is it now a hit, ranked in the top three of all TV4u.Com shows (and they have more than 5,000!).

AIAW Sports Remembered on TVS Pageant.Com

When the Title IX legislation was passed to give women an equal chance to compete in intercollegiate athletics, the neandrethals at the NCAA were having none of it. Let those women figure it out for themselves. Andy they did! The top women athletic administrators in the country led by Donna Lopiano of Texas brought about the AIAW and the fun began. All of a sudden there were national championships for women in basketball, tennis, swimming, track and field, and other sports. The Mizlou Television Network started telecasting Immaculata's basketball championships and later the TVS Television Network started covering several AIAW championships. Many can be seen here on the TV4U.Com 'Chick' IPTV channel, with is located at TVS Pageant.Com. Of course, once the brush was cleared and the events established, the heavy handed NCAA came in and ripped the AIAW asunder. But the results of these efforts by the AIAW can be felt every day as thousands of deserving , talented collegiate women now have the chance to participate in collegiate sports.
